Full Text

PROVIDENCE, AUGUST.

Extract of a letter from Charlestown, (S.C.) July 12.

These two nights past a number of people have assembled and called at the houses of several persons who appear obnoxious; those they found at home underwent a pumping chastisement. This seems to have been brought about by some provoking behaviour of a Mr. Bacon, who, with others has been obliged to decamp. Yesterday a proclamation from the Governor was published, forbidding riotous proceedings, &c. This perhaps may put an end to it for a few days.
