Full Text

From Columbus.—We learn from a friend who was in the battle, direct from Columbus yesterday, that he conversed with a Lincoln Captain taken prisoner, who belonged to the Iowa regiment, and to use the Hessian Captain's own words—“The regiment was literally annihilated.” Our friend says our officers and men speak of it as one of the hardest fought battles, and one of the most brilliant victories of the age.

We further learn by a private dispatch to a friend in the city, that our loss in killed is 126, and that of the Hessians is supposed to be 2,000 in killed, wounded, and missing. The Cairoites represent the Federals as being badly whipped.
