In An Attempt To Seize $6,000 At Car Barn.
Police Had Received tip-off And Were Prepared.
Chicago, Aug. 30. (AP)—One robber was killed, a second probably fatally injured, and three detectives and an official of the Chicago surface lines were wounded last night in a spectacular gun fight between police and a group of robbers who attempted to seize $6,000 at a west side car barn.
A young woman of twenty, expensively costumed and pretty, who had acted as chauffeur and a “lookout” for the robbers, was captured under gun fire. Another girl companion and one of the robbers escaped. Police surrounded the car barn as the result of a “tip-off” from an employe of the street car company who had been urged to join the robber band.
A civilian who fired at the escaped man believed he had wounded him.
The man who escaped, was captured later.
