Full Text
To counteract such villainous proceedings, his Excellency the Governor has sent up one of the Shawanese hostages, under the protection of Colonel Christian, to quiet the minds of his countrymen; which there is little doubt of his being able to effect, from the very kind treatment he and his companions have experienced since their arrival in this city.
Some little time ago, the Shawanese Indians applied for leave to go to the late field of battle to bury their dead (most part of whom they had only time to hide) and were accompanied thither by Captain Russell, of Fincastle; who learned from the Corn Stalk (their principal headman) that he had lost upwards of 100 of his people in that engagement, 80 being killed on the spot, and a great number wounded, 20 of whom have since died in the towns.
