Having seen an article in your valuable little Daily of yesterday, called the Confessions of an Old Maid, I am thereby incited to address this communication to you. You probably will recollect, that the lady, in enumerating the many suitors which she had for her hand, states that the first one was agreeable to her in all things, save that he was a mechanic; on which account she rejected him. but afterwards sorely repented of her folly.—Now, gentlemen, I have every reason to believe that I am the rejected lover. It is now some twelve or fourteen years since, that I made my court to a young lady, who answers precisely the description the one in question gives of herself. I was rejected, on account of (as I afterwards thought.) my being a mechanic. I loved her sincerely, but was so mortified in receiving a refusal when I made her an offer of my hand, that I became disgusted with the whole sex, and foreswore all further intercourse with them: and determined to be an Old Bachelor. My object in writing this letter is to say, that if it should meet her eye and she should not be averse to matrimony, (and I infer from her letter that she is not,) if she will address me through the Post Office, (as she knows my name,) informing me of her residence, &c., I will do myself the pleasure to call upon her, when, perhaps, we shall be able to arrange matters satisfactorily. If, gentlemen, you will have the goodness to give this a place in your Little Daily you will much oblige
