Full Text
The Winchester Virginian is growing churlish and snappish. We hope it does not make the old proverb good. The extract it gives from the Warrenton paper is a good one. We do, indeed, despise the "miserable affectation of republican simplicity assumed" by persons who run between horses' legs to "go touch the hem of Gen. Jackson's garments:" if such are set down as the contrary of wise men even, we should not gainsay the appellation. The "nervous epidemic" is rife; but not down South. To the North, and some say a little to the West, it goes by the name of the Jackson fever—or "man-worship."
