It is well known that the adjacent town of East Haven has some wide awake and energetic women. This fact has been recently emphasized by a church incident.
Rev. J. W. Van Ingen, the late assistant clergyman at St. Paul's, and for the last sixteen months the popular rector of Christ church, East Haven, severed very suddenly his connection with the two churches in order to take a position in St. Luke's hospital in Chicago by July 1.
Mr. Van Ingen had made no demand for his salary from the suburban church, for it was not due until the first of the month, and in addition to this fact there was not at this time sufficient funds in the treasury to liquidate the claim.
Notwithstanding all this the ladies of the parish, represented by Mrs. J. W. Thompson and Mrs. Louisa Bradley determined that their late rector should be paid in full previous to his journey to Chicago, and yesterday-Tuesday morning-he received the full amount.
