YORK, JULY

EUROPEAN ARTICLES.

By the way of New-Bedford we have received London papers to the 23d May:--By them they do not furnish much food for the Quid Nunc. The Expedition, if so tardy a thing as that preparing in England, could be called by that name--was crawling on; and transports were assembling in the Downs to receive 10,000 foot, and 4000 horse.

Whether Sweden had, or had not, ratified the armistice with Bonaparte, remained doubtful;--though the last account stated, that the gallant Gustavus Adolphus had written to his General, Essen, "I learn with much displeasure, that you had concluded an armistice with Napoleon, Commander of the French armies, &c. --I contemn his proffered friendship, and consider that my honor, as well as the interest of my people, impose on me the necessity of treating him as an enemy."

A Gottenburg paper, of May 11, says, that on that day the King, accompanied by old General Toll, set off from Malmo for Ystad to embark for Pomerania; where he meant to put himself at the head of his troops, which he expected would be reinforced by 50,000 Prussians and British.--The siege of Dantzic had become highly interesting:--The French had made numerous attempts to carry the town by storm; and the garrison had made many sorties.--All the late commercial differences between Russia and England, had been amicably settled.--Austria had made a Conscription of all her subjects from 17 to 40 years of age; and her cabinet was active; and she was balancing between War and Peace. Vice-Admiral Sir James Saumarez commands the Channel fleet; and Vice-Admiral Russell, the North-Sea squadron. The Public Funds of England continued gradually rising; which indicated that the "knowing ones" scented a Peace in the wind. The British were about to send provisions to the Russian and Prussian armies in Prussia.
