Joshua Jones, a colored man, was committed to jail at New Castle by Esquire Silver of Wilmington upon the charge of committing an outrage upon Mrs. Mary Meredith, a married woman keeping house for Henry McCrone in New Castle Hundred. Lewis Carpenter, alias Jones, colored, was committed as accessory, and William Moore as a witness. All three are farm hands, the last named living at Henry McCrone's. The affair created much excitement in Wilmington.
