Dr. G. T. R. Fahlund, President of the State Board of Directors presided at the meeting and opened the Friday morning session. Credit was given to Dan Mooney of Butte for the fine job as State Crusade Chairman. Emphasis will be put on a program to "Reduce smoking in high school students" in 1960.
"The Effect of Ehrlich's Ascitic Tumor on Antibody Production in Mice" by John J. Munoz, Ph. D. of Montana State University was definitely one of the highlights of the training school.
Dr. Munoz has recently received a grant of $12,000.00 to be used for research.
Two very interesting and informative panels on the service program and the educational program throughout the state were moderated by W. H. Randall, M. D. State Service Committee Chairman of Miles City and N. A. Franken, M. D. State Public Education Committee Chairman, of Havre. Dr. Randall stated 24% of the State budget for 1959 had been spent for service in Montana.
The film strip "The Cancer Challenge to Youth" presented by Mrs. Willis B. Jones, Public Education Chairman, Yellowstone County Unit was forceful and timely.
A medical film on Brain Tumors was shown by Jesse T. Schwidde, M. D. of Billings. This was an "on the spot" film taken during the actual performance of surgery for a brain tumor on a patient by Dr. Schwidde.
The Catholic High School Cancer Club from Great Falls gave a review of their years work and accomplishments for 1959 in the interest of assisting and aiding in the program of cancer control. Under the direction of Sister Mildred Marie, they have worked tirelessly in distributing literature and educational pamphlets to the public.
They summarized their year's program with this pointed statement - "If one life was saved by having read the literature, it was well worth their efforts."
The Richland County Unit was presented with a certificate of appreciation for their efforts put forth and the amount of money they raised for the 1959 fund raising crusade.
Certificates for five years of volunteer service in the county of Richland were mailed to Mrs. Walter Bauman, Mrs. Albert Decker, Mrs. L. J. Delaney, Mrs. Charles Evanson, Miss Jo Rogers, Mrs. H. W. Ross, Mrs. Gail Sawyer, Mrs. Ward Weaver, Mrs. John Winter, Mrs. W. E. McChesney and Mrs. Ben Hubley, all of Sidney.
Mrs. McChesney and Mrs. Hubley received their certificates at Billings, Mrs. D. L. Howard of Savage, Mrs. Irvin Noyes and Miss Margaret Pintler of Fairview.
