What is this article about?
A pseudonymous letter to the National Intelligencer editors proposes debating the advantages and disadvantages of potential unions between Delaware and Maryland, and between Rhode Island and Connecticut, using a marriage metaphor. The writer offers to 'publish the banns' and 'tie the knot' once consent is obtained, but advises against further state 'matrimonies'.

Messrs. Editors,
I have taken notice of some paragraphs in your paper from the pens of Cato and Mentor, respecting a union between the state of Delaware and some other state. Perhaps you may find room in your paper to insert the following variation of the question, viz: If an union should take place between the states of Delaware and Maryland, and also between Rhode Island and Connecticut, what will be the advantages and disadvantages to each state, and also to the United States?
Let sound politicians answer this question. As soon as it can be ascertained that the parties are agreed, and have obtained the consent of their guardian (the general government) I will stand ready not only to publish the banns, but also to tie the knot.
HYMEN.
P. S. I would not recommend matrimony to any more of the states.
