Lower Yukon Needs DC-4 Field
The people of the lower Yukon are asking
for a DC-4 field to serve ten villages with an esti-
mated 5,000 population. Several of the villages have
sent copies of their petition to the Legislature, to us
and some of them have already been published.
One of the most interesting features of the letters
is that none of the villages are asking that they be the
chosen spot for the field. Each village asks that a
good site be chosen so that all may benefit. This is
the kind of cooperation of effort that should get re-
sults, and merits early consideration in the planning
for development of that area.
The villages involved are: Marshall, Pilot Station,
St. Mary's, Mountain Village, Alakanuk, Chowhoc-
tolik, Kwiguk, Sheldon's Point, Hamilton, Chaneliak,
and Kotlik.
With a better freighting connection, Nome could
be a regular market for the fine canned fish which
comes from Alakanuk and Kwiguk.
