Full Text

The elections in South Carolina, it is said, have resulted unfavorably to the cause of the Convention. The Charleston Courier says, "We have the returns of 46 Representatives elected, who are distinctly understood to be opposed to a Convention; besides some 8 or 10, whose opinions on that subject are not known to us. As a vote on Convention requires two thirds of the House to carry the measure, 42 votes being more than one third of the House, is sufficient to defeat it; and of this number we are certain, under almost any circumstances."
