MONTGOMERY, Ala. (SNS)—Alabama's Gov. John Patterson reported Thursday that Federal Civil Rights Commission agents are again investigating Negro voting complaints in this state. He said that an FBI agent notified him that agent and commission officers had gone to Dallas County to reopen the probe.
Dallas County is one of the six counties in South Alabama where the rights body looked into complaints a year ago. The governor stated that he had not talked to members of the registration board in Dallas but advised them, as well as those throughout the state, to refuse to cooperate in any way.
He further said civil rights agents "have no right to be down here meddling in our domestic affairs. They will get no help or assistance from me whatsoever. We will fight them at every turn and they will find it will be uphill and hard going all the way."
