(Day of Wrath)
"That day of wrath, that dreadful day
When heaven and earth shall pass away,
Both David and the Sibyl say.
What terror then shall us befall,
When lo, the Judge's steps appall,
About to sift the deeds of all."
It is generally believed that this hymn was composed by Thomas of Celano, a Franciscan of the 13th century. There are 234 English translations of this incomparable poem.
