Full Text
The Paris papers contain many speculations on the subject of Spain and her colonies, and the Constitutionnel says, that if the Holy Alliance should make any attempt against the liberties of South America, it would change the whole face of things. A direct attack would be made on the interests of England, and a contest would be immediately commenced, on the element where she is all-powerful. It is evident, it is added, that to reduce them, in spite of England and her navy, would be impossible. England, it is said, does not put herself to the trouble of conferring with the continental powers, nor of menacing or attacking them, but is proceeding silently and by diplomatic management to recognise American Independence, and to form most important commercial connexions with the colonies.
Ballasteros is said to have been arrested while meditating an escape.
A member of the Cortes, who voted for the Regency at Seville, has been arrested and hung at Grenada.
General Morillo has also been arrested.
The King continues to exile and deprive of their employments those who remained behind as well as those who accompanied him.
