The Mutilated Body of a Woman Found Floating in the Charles River.
BOSTON, July 23.—Shortly before 6 o'clock to-night, Alex W. Cormack, janitor of the Union boat club, discovered a bag floating, in the Charles river, near the boat house and upon investigation the bag was found to contain the mutilated body of a woman, whose lower limbs were missing and having the appearance of having been hacked off with a dull axe. There were marks of violence on her face and arms and her tongue protruded as though she had been strangled. The body presented a sickening sight. The remains were apparently those of a laboring woman about 40 years of age, well formed, and were clad only in a chemise. There was nothing about the body that seemed to furnish a clue to its identification and the matter bids fair to add one more mystery to Boston's record. The body was removed to an undertaker's, where it awaits identification.
