Hanover, December 29.—Colonel Rathbone, who killed his wife, attempted suicide but recovered sufficiently to be taken to the hospital. His recovery is possible. A judicial examination of the body of Mrs. Rathbone shows several shot and dagger wounds. One bullet passed through the breast and came out at the back bone. A dagger thrust penetrated a rib to the heart. Rathbone was lately very jealous of his wife, though there was no cause for such feeling. At present official inquiry into the tragedy is impossible owing to the condition of Rathbone. His mind is still affected and his utterances are of a rambling character. It is understood he believes his children have been abducted and that he was wounded in the fight with the abductor.
