Railroad Accident at Ayer.
Ayer, Mass., Nov. 12.—There was a bad smash-up on the Stony Brook railroad at Ayer this morning about 6 o'clock. The freight train from Lowell followed the engine after separating instead of going into the yard, driving the engine Chelmsford into the engine house, where the engine Nashua was stationed, and driving the engine Nashua through the end of the house, smashing both engines badly and damaging several cars. The engineer, fireman and brakeman jumped off and were not hurt. Mr. Lawrence, the conductor, jumped from the top of a box car and was not seriously hurt. The engine and cars were together when they passed the switch so that they could not have time to switch the cars.
