The Murder of John Wilson.

MR. PRINTER,

I have observed, with no small degree of indignation and contempt, that a number of our editors have, without comment, copied into their papers, from the Royal Gazettes of Halifax, an article, stating, that previous to the death of the unfortunate Wilson, who was inhumanly murdered by the slaves of a royal butcher on board the Halifax, he confessed he was by birth an Englishman. Many of those editors, perhaps, implicitly believe this to be a fact. For my own part, I believe it to be one of those infamous lies for which the British and their friends are so notorious. I no more believe that the unfortunate man was born in that land of slavery, than he was born in the planet Jupiter.-- Great allowance, however, is, and ought to be made for editors, some are grossly ignorant, some treacherously wicked, and others have never carried their noses beyond the counties in which they were born.

" We are told that Wilson confessed himself to be an Englishman !" citizens of America are you inclined to believe this ? Will you confide in the mere assertion of wretches, the cringing slaves of a despot whose business it is to palliate the horrid act ? Who dare not speak the truth lest they incur the frowns and displeasure of that idiot whose very act proclaims him a tyrant. No, citizens, surely you will not degrade yourselves to the level of a Pickering, who when secretary of state seemed more inclined to confide in the word of honor of an English ship captain, than in the solemn oaths of three of his own countrymen ! ! If actions are the best criterions by which to form a correct judgment, the English are the most faithless, cruel, and vindictive people on earth. Remember Paoli, Fort Griswold, the Jersey prison ship. Cast your eyes upon the tottering ruins of Fairfield and Charlestown, Norfolk and Esopus, lasting monuments of British cruelty, and ask yourselves the plain question ; what have we to expect from British justice or British magnanimity ? What is British friendship ? The tenderest mercies of that debased nation are cruel. She never befriends but to destroy. Her allies have all fallen one by one victims to her baseness and treachery.--Her last act here, the immolation of unoffending citizens at the blood stained altar of British vengeance, is in perfect union with all her past conduct, ever marked by perfidy, cruelty and murder.--

Read, fellow citizens, the exposition of her crimes against you, before you were a free people. Read the declaration of American independence as drawn up by the masterly pen of your patriotic and illustrious Jefferson. Rally round the standard of your insulted country, support the administration of that most excellent man who is placed at the head of your affairs, and you have nothing to fear from your ancient and unrelenting foe -remember the conduct of Britain towards the Spanish plate ships--remember their conduct towards the Dutch in their retreat through Holland, and lastly, to cap the climax of British treachery and infamy-remember their conduct towards the Sublime Porte -At the very time when the British minister at Constantinople was professing the utmost warmth of friendship for the Ottoman empire, the British commanders had their orders in their pockets to batter down Constantinople. as they had before battered Copenhagen for the neutrality which it maintained in the war. Such is British justice! Such is British magnanimity !

Indulgent Heaven, too long insulted with the crimes of that profligate and abandoned government, is about to consign her to that fate she so justly merits.

" The sun of Great Britain's glory
"is fast descending to the horizon,
" and herself seems passing to that aw-
" ful dissolution whose issue it is not
" given human foresight to scan."
