Ohio packers should familiarize themselves with Section 1155-10 of the Cold Storage Law, according to Earl H. Hanefeld, State Director of Agriculture. The enforcement of this law is in the hands of W. D. Leech, Chief of the Division of Foods and Dairies of the State Department.
This section, in brief, states that it is unlawful to place in cold storage any diseased, tainted or otherwise unwholesome food.
According to Mr. Leech, this is the time of year when eggs are being stored. Packers should select none but candled eggs and grade them before they are placed in storage. This insures a better quality food product when the eggs are removed from storage. Where there is any aversion to cold storage eggs, it is nearly always due to the carelessness of the packer in selecting poor quality of eggs for storage.
