The Crowning Infamy.
The Returning Board adjourned, finally, on Christmas Eve, 24th inst., after having canvassed the election returns from all the parishes of the State excepting four. As was expected, from the character of the members of that Board, the Conservative majority of 5,000 gradually dwindled away under their manipulation of the returns, until, at their last session on Thursday, they consummated the deed of infamy by throwing out a sufficient number of Conservative votes to enable them to declare elected the Radical nominee for the office of State Treasurer. So far as the Representatives of the people in the Lower House of the Legislature are concerned, their action has been even more flagrantly unjust. According to the official returns, seventy Conservatives and forty-one Radicals were elected. The Board has declared elected fifty-two Conservatives and fifty-four Radicals, thus changing a Conservative majority of twenty-nine into a Radical majority of two. The cases of the parishes of Grant, Winn, Bienville and De Soto, all of which gave heavy Conservative majorities, were referred to the Legislature, which, by the rulings of the Board having a Radical majority, will, of course, declare all the Radical candidates elected.
Comment is unnecessary. We give the facts :-our people and the world can judge.
It would be well, however, for all true REPUBLICANS, for all lovers of CONSTITUTIONAL liberty, to remember the names of all who were concerned, as principals, in this dark and damning act; they are:
The Radical party of the United States;
U. S. Grant, President of the United States;
G. H. Williams, Attorney General of the United States;
Wm. Pitt Kellogg, Nondescript;
S. B. Packard, U. S. Marshal.
HENCHMEN.
J. Madison Wells;
Thos. Anderson;
G. Casanave;
Louis Kenner.
