Will Open Gyms
Next Wednesday, October 22,
the 12 gymnasia operated by the
Park Department throughout the
Hub, will formally open for the
indoor season, according to Park
Commission Chairman John J. Murphy.
Each of the city's gyms will be
open each weekday from 2 to 10
p.m...and in addition to the
classes and programs carried on
in former years, new features
have been added. Recreation
Director Billy Muilen will super-
vise a city-wide gym program
and will supervise mass activi-
ties in which all of the gyms will
take part. Classes in regular
conditioning will be held for all
age groups, with special evening
classes for working boys, and
evening classes for working girls.
The popular afternoon classes for
women will be conducted at each
unit and on Saturday night, the
Park Department Basketball
Association's
games
will
be
played.
Special
emphasis
will
be
children strength-building
ex-
ercises, and it is planned to find
a place for each child and adult
who wishes to benefit by use of
the gym system. Within the lim-
ited Park Department budget,
showers and locker room facilities
have been repaired and during
the winter, these repairs will be
carried on. It is the aim of the
Park Commission.
