Full Text

The Subtreasury.

We understand that the United States Marshal for this district has procured him "a strong box." wherein to keep his deposits; and, that the box aforesaid may be safely kept, he has placed it for security in the vault of the Branch Bank of Cape Fear in this city. Can any thing more strongly illustrate the absurdity of the Subtreasury scheme? The Government will not keep its deposits in a bank: oh, no, that would be monstrous! But its agents put them in a box, and then put that box in a bank! If this is not "whipping the devil round the stump" we know not what is.--Raleigh Register.
