The delivery of a raft of telephone poles for the Pacific States Telephone & Telegraph company was made yesterday by J. N. McLean, of Ahsahka. The raft was brought from Ahsahka to Lewiston, a distance of 40 miles in six and one-half hours.
Mr. McLean states that a large number of rafts are being brought to the city during the present high water stage and the Lafolette and other mills on the lower Snake river will be supplied during the high water period.
The big eddy above Agatha is very rough and the Larson log raft was milling in the eddy when a crew bringing in logs for the Lewiston Lumber company passed today. The rafts caught in the eddy is sometimes thrown out in a short time but is more frequently held for a period of hours before it is possible to gain the through current and escape the whirl.
The only disaster in the eddy this season was suffered by Jack McDaniels, of Peck, who was caught by the eddy and the raft went to pieces before being thrown out Mr. McDaniels suffered the entire loss of the raft, none of the logs being recovered.
