Full Text
Yesterday soon after dinner, a colored man by the name of Dick McDonald was painting the town red, at least he attempted to do so but with poor results. He imagined himself Wild Bill, Texas Jack, or some other equally important personage, and meandered down Santa Fe ave flourishing a 38-caliber, seven shooter, much to the inconvenience of passers by. As he passed Geo Brown's confectionery stand, just north of Aldrich & Benfield's livery stable, he pulled up his revolver and shot. The ball entered the siding near the front entrance, went clear through and up into the ceiling. Old Mr. Brown was standing just inside the door at the time of the shooting, and his head was not more than a foot from where the ball entered the building. Marshal Chase immediately arrested the gentleman of color, and he is now in jail, awaiting his trial, and meditating on the free and easy western life.
