We are indebted to the politeness of our friends who have furnished us with liberal extracts from their letters, together with intelligence received in conversing with the passengers by the Lorenzo.
The troops which defiled through Bordeaux & the adjacent country, were only between 70 and 80 000. their destination was equally intended to act against Portugal and Spain. The latter being to undergo a total change of government, and to be included in the dynasty of the Bonapartes.
The spouse of Lucien (whom he had married without the consent of Napoleon) lately died of a very short illness. It was generally believed that this widowed prince would shortly be married to some princess, and be installed as king of Spain and Portugal, which kingdom will assume some new and more appropriate name.
It was whispered mysteriously in fashionable circles, that the emperor Napoleon at Milan, was engaged in effectuating his fanciful change in the political state of Europe. The kingdom of Italy is to be enlarged, and assigned for the maintenance of his beloved empress, from whom his matrimonial ties are to be cancelled by divorce, from the hands of his holiness the pope. The empress will then reign over Italy, and the crown to become hereditary in the family of the Beauharnais, through her son the present viceroy of the same.
The emperor Napoleon invested with the title of emperor of the west, will ally himself to the house of Russia, by marrying the princess Catherine, sister to the emperor Alexander, who is to assume the title of emperor of the east, and place his brother Constantine, on the throne at Constantinople, which city is to be the metropolis of a kingdom formed principally from the dominions of Turkey in Europe.
The siege of Gibraltar was spoken of, but not as a matter of primary importance.
Cambaceres the arch chancellor of the empire was at Bordeaux, where the most splendid entertainments were given on the occasion.
The embargo at Bordeaux was laid pursuant to the equipment and sailing of the secret expedition of which 2 frigates have arrived at Martinique.
The embargo was taken off on the 4th Dec.
The prevailing opinion at Bordeaux at the departure of the Lorenzo captain Dill, were that war would be declared by France against the United States, on the event of their adjustment with England.
Mr. Lee, American consul at Bordeaux, has addressed his dispatches to the secretary of state; supposed to contain an official account of the Algerine declaration of war against the United States, and of the actual commencement of hostilities.
The emperor Napoleon, arrived at the foot of mount Cenis on the 23rd November--at Turin in the evening of the same day, and on the day after at noon he was at Milan--his arrival at these places were conveyed to her imperial majesty by telegraphic dispatches.
