Many of you, no doubt, attended the amalgamation meeting (of Feds and Demos) held at Christiana on Monday, Sept. 17th, with the hope and expectation that all the arrangements made there would be made upon fair, just and honorable terms and friendship! Let us now examine the proceedings of that meeting and show how far our expectations were realized.

There are, at this time, two Jackson candidates for Congress before the people: one (Col. W.) fairly in nomination, the other (Mr. B.) improperly and altogether more regularly taken up: his nomination having been made by a county meeting of—how many voters do you suppose—only Eighteen! In order to concentrate the forces, and to unite the strength of our own party, it is necessary that one of these two gentlemen should be withdrawn. With a view, principally, to effect this object, was the Christiana meeting held. Look at the following facts and then consider seriously whether you were not all the dupes of one man, the United States Senator? W. Seal was put in the Chair. By whom? James Rogers! Saml Harker was virtually the Secretary! A list of names for conferees (agreeable to his honor) laid before the Committee! Speeches made to force the miserable county ticket upon the people, by Geo. Read, jr. In addition to all these, what and who are the conferees? With the exception of perhaps two (out of the ten) they are federalists & M'Lane democrats! Is this a proper course to pursue in order to get a fair nomination of a Jackson candidate for Congress? Were Col. W. and his democratic friends treated with any thing like justice in this arrangement? Had any democrat the least power or influence, at that meeting, or any thing to do with these arrangements? No, none! Who, then was the Magnus Apollo? The U. States Senator, who sustained by his adherents and understrappers carried all before him—and to what? To have John Bayard and Garrett into nomination, foolishly hoping that you will support their election because you despaired to have a voice in the meeting. Dupes, indeed, will you be, if such art and management as this is allowed to deceive and gull you. Surely, surely, when you reflect seriously on the above matters you will not suffer yourselves to be cheated out of your rights by eleventh hour Jackson men, who have come over to that party only to obtain all the loaves and fishes—who might truly say of their Jackson feelings—In supporting him, I support myself—Heaven is my judge, and not for lore and duty, but for my own peculiar purposes, do I pretend to advocate him!
