To the walls and your guide tells you they are made of marble which extends to within one foot of the ceiling. This same design, he says, has been followed throughout the entire hospital, to insure cleanliness and neatness of appearance. The floors he says, are made of terrazzo and the ceilings have sound treatment of spun glass. You look up and see little tiny holes in the roof which in some way: you are told, control the flow of excess moisture. What a place- you say, to yourself. And before you go any further along the corridor your attention is drawn to a wall emplacement which has a systematic series of name-plate spaces, each with a switch, and mounted on a huge black metal board with an internal lighting unit. You are told there are several duplications of this panel throughout the hospital: each connected with the switchboard operator's office. There is one in the head nurses office and one on each ward. Each slot will hold the name of a physician, who has been permitted to practice in the hospital. When a doctor enters the building, he registers by flicking the switch beside his name. When he leaves he turns off the central switch. In this way it is always known what doctors are in the building, available when needed in case some emergency should arise. But now your attention is called to the group of administrative offices on your right. First you walk into the reception office, and from here to Administrator Wilson's office. Next to his office is the spacious room allotted for his secretary and after that the office of the Director of Nurses, Mrs. Pearlie Melville of the Grady Staff. All of these offices have pale blue-green walls and padded desks and chairs of the same monological shades. They are modern and streamlined to the last minute detail and splendid in their perfection. In fancy you see Flash Gordon and Buck
