About three weeks ago, private Jas. Murphy, of troop B, first cavalry, Geo. A. Crossman, private in light battery E, first artillery, together with a discharged soldier, robbed Ah Ten, a Chinaman, on the high road between Portland and Vancouver, of $50. Murphy and Crossman were tried before a general court martial at Vancouver, both being found guilty as charged. Murphy was sentenced to three years in the Oregon state penitentiary, and Crossman to two years and a half at hard labor at Alcatraz island, and both to be dishonorably discharged. The third party to the transaction has not yet been captured.
