CITIZENS DECIDE BY 4 TO 1 FOR $25,000 BOND ISSUE
Special Election Held Monday Under An Act of Legislature
By a vote of 192 to 49, or almost a four-to-one majority, the citizens of Oakland declared in favor of a bond issue of $25,000, the proceeds of which are to be used to build an auxiliary reservoir for the town.
The matter was decided at a special election held on Monday under a referendum contained in a measure passed at the recent session of the General Assembly.
The plan is to erect the reservoir in the near future while the Federal Government is assisting in such projects, allowing a percentage on labor, materials, etc. Before the Government would assist in such an undertaking, it was necessary for the community to show it was able to care for its share of the work and expense incident to the matter. It is not expected that the entire amount of the bond issue will be used for this purpose, according to Mayor Grover C. Stemple.
The present reservoir has a capacity of 323,000 gallons.
