Praise for Crops of Judith Basin.
Up to the time of going to press,
no word has been received in Lewis-
town concerning the decision reached
by the board of directors of the Chi-
cago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad
company at their meeting which was
called for last Friday and at which it
was understood that final action
would be taken with reference to new
construction work in this part of Mon-
tana.
Will Be Some Building-
The utmost confidence prevails
here that the company will at least
lay the rails and put in the bridges
for a distance of not less than fifteen
miles north of Lewistown. The grade
is completed to Warm Spring creek
and there is little doubt but that this
track will be completed in time to
handle the grain which will be har-
vested out in that section. Even this
much will be of immense benefit to
the grain-growers in the northern
country, as fifteen miles is a consid-
erable item when it comes to hauling
bumper crops of wheat to market.
For scores of ranchers, it means the
difference between profit and loss.
Powers Very Enthusiastic.
Former United States Senator T.
C. Power, of Helena, spent a couple
of days in Lewistown the latter part
of the week looking over his extensive
interests in this city. Senator Power
is a big stockholder in the Power
Mercantile company, the Montana
Hardware company and other large
business enterprises in this city, and
has always kept a close tab on the
progress of Lewistown and the Ju-
dith Basin. After looking about town
he was taken for an auto ride out over
the Basin by one of his business as-
sociates, W. D. Symmes, and when
he saw our grain fields and numerous
other evidences of almost miraculous
development, he discarded his usual
conservatism and pronounced, without
hesitation, the Judith Basin the won-
der of the ages. Mr. Power has al-
ways predicted that Lewistown is
destined to become one of the largest
cities of the state, just as it has ever
been the most substantial from a busi-
ness viewpoint, and it is gratifying
to the old-timer to see his predictions
being so amply fulfilled.
