Hernando High School's snappy and colorful 60-piece marching band will make its first appearance of the fall and winter season this Friday night, Sept. 28th, under the lights at Emerson Field when the Leopards and Zephyrhills tangle on the gridiron.

Bandmaster George Kayton has worked up a snappy, new routine for the purple, gold, and white clad musicians and everyone is looking forward to the first appearance of the musical organization this season.

The musical prowess and marching ability of the local youngsters have received widespread recognition throughout the state in past years and already this year Bandmaster Kayton has received an invitation for the band to march in the colorful Homecoming Parade at the University of Florida when the Gators meet Vanderbilt on Oct. 19th. Arrangements have not yet been worked out but the band will appear if possible.

The roster of the band this year includes:

Clarinets Jula-Mae Royal, Margaret Hinkley, Ann Varn, Ronald Ruedelle. Gail Bennett, Pola Lanier, Collene Lanier, Betty Sikes, Diane Batchelder, Jane Lee Snow.

Cornets Buster Webb, Jane Wernicke, Mary Webb, Maurice Grubbs, Harry Whitehurst, Sonny Coburn, Verona Deen, Robert Waldron.

Trombone Cecil Miller, Keith Looper, Jimmy Barrett, Mary Batten, Dorothy Champion, Virginia Elliott.

Drums Rosalene Everson, Mary Sue Wernicke, Robert Milton, Ben Batten, Mary Allen, Mary Sikes.

Bass Clarinet-Dorothy Soult; Bells-Elnita Whitehurst and Robert Rich; Oboe Janet Coburn.

Saxophones Patsy Coburn Clint Schultz, Kent Looper, Opa Cochrane, Jimmy Dawson.

Flute and Piccolo - Priscilla Mueller, Harriett Brinkley; Sousaphones Frank Smith, James Scarborough, Gordon Hall; Melophone-Annabell Singer.
