Springfield, Ill., Sept. 13--Three winds of cyclonic velocity struck this city early today, stripping the city of trees and unroofing houses and other buildings. Citizens, terrorized, fled to their cellars. The city was in darkness and all wires were down. A portion of the state house roof was hurled through the air into the yard. Parts of the huge copper dome were torn from the roof and hurled into the streets. One section hangs in a tree.
The loss to the state house is several thousands and the damage to residents is heavy. All cars are stopped because the streets are impassable owing to debris.
Keeps Rose From Reunion.
Secretary Rose being custodian of the state house, and arrangements for repairs requiring his immediate and personal attention, he will be prevented from coming to the Fulton county soldiers' reunion at Cuba.
