July 27. The defenders of the Ministry are drove to the last subterfuge of defence-- They allow the desperate situation to which the British Empire is reduced, and would palliate the misfortunes under which the people labour, by presenting to them the grievances suffered by the subjects of other nations. A pusser in a morning paper tells us, we ought to rejoice at the appearance of East-India affairs, because those of the Dutch are in a less prosperous situation--He might as well tell us, we should not regret the conquests of Hyder Ally, though he stript us of all our possessions in India, because Spain has got no possessions in India, or that we should cheerfully submit to every invasion on our liberties, because freedom has been banish'd from Turkey. This argument, by comparison, is truly nouvelle, but is so wretchedly weak, that it exposes, by illustration, the very cause and persons it intends to defend.
