The Water Committee of the Common Council has awarded a contract to the Tredegar Iron-Works, Richmond, to furnish sixteen-inch pipes to be used in the introduction of water into the Fifth Ward of this city. The contract for new valves and hydrants in the same ward has been given to Messrs. Wood & Co., of Philadelphia. It is proper to state that bids were made by the proprietors of the foundries in this city to furnish these articles, which were not accepted because they proposed to do the work outside of Petersburg, and would not agree to do it here even at an advanced rate.
