Reporters Admitted to First Session Under the New Dispensation.
The former mysteries of the police trial board were unveiled today, when an open session of that body was held at Lieut. Kelly's station, to which reporters of the press were admitted in compliance with Commissioner Wight's recent order.
The members of the trial board met in the squad room at 10:30 o'clock this morning. Acting Capt. Vernon presided, with Lieuts. Heffner and Swindells as members of the board. Mr. Arthur Kemp made a stenographic report of the proceedings.
Policeman S. E. Herndon, of the First precinct, was tried on a charge of being off his beat in a lunch room for eight minutes. The accused admitted having been from his beat and in the lunch room, but for only four minutes. The prosecuting witnesses in the case were Policemen Gowen and Kenny, who operate adjoining beats to that of Herndon.
Robert L. Carroll was arraigned on a charge of intoxication, neglect of duty and disrespectful and profane language toward Mrs. Margaret Bowie Chapman, the complainant.
One other case before the board was that of non-payment of debt, which was satisfactorily disposed of.
