Trouble Between the Abolitionists And the Methodist Conference.—We have received the particulars of an unpleasant squabble between several members of the respected and respectable body of Methodists in this city, and the Bishops of the General Conference, in relation to the question of Abolition. We have only room merely to advert to it to day. It appears that in the discipline of the Methodist Church, a sentence was inserted worded as follows, or to this effect, viz:—"Slavery is a great moral evil."

It also appears that some time since, the conference (at the suggestion, as it is stated, of Dr. Bangs) struck out this sentence from the discipline. This created a tremendous commotion among those Abolitionists who were connected with the Methodist Church, and these latter got up a petition signed by 1200 males and females, and forwarded it to the recent General Conference at Baltimore, to have the sentence restored to the discipline. Some of Dr. Bangs' party immediately came from Baltimore to New York, waited upon the wives of many of the members whose names were attached to the petition; and asked them if they had signed any petition that had been sent to the General Conference reflecting on the character of the bishops. They replied, of course, in the negative to this equivocal question, upon which the visitors and querists immediately erased their names from the slavery petition, and returned to the conference, where they charged the getters up of it with fraud, and forging names in its concoction. The whole thing seems likely to end in a disgraceful row and split; in the same way that the Abolitionists have disgraced and split up the Presbyterian party by their shameful squabbles.
