PROGRAM CHANGED
Chapel Hill, June 10.-The University of North Carolina Graduate School today announced changes in requirements for the master's degree. The new regulations will go into effect with the summer school session which opened Thursday.
The straight M. A. degree, it was announced, will be based on the present requirements, including a reading knowledge of a modern foreign language.
Requirements for a master of arts in education provide that on recommendation of the department head and the student's adviser, the student may be relieved of the modern language requirement by substitution of an adequate training in statistical or historical methods of investigation.
Another plan leading to a master's degree in education provides for distribution of nine full courses which will allow a maximum of four graduate courses in one or more departments other than education.
The program under either of these plans, it was stated, will meet the certification requirements for certificates for principals and superintendents and renewal requirements for teachers' certificates.
