The Malone Palladium which is Vice President Wheeler's organ, doesn't tackle kindly to Cornell and his associates. It says: "It would not be folly simple, but falsehood as well, to profess delight with the ticket."
[St. Louis Republican]
The political needs of the Republican party in Ohio and elsewhere are becoming daily more pressing and the Republican congressional committee at Washington has made another call for help. Government employees will understand its meaning and pony up accordingly.
John Sherman owns fifty-one houses in Washington, from which he receives rent. His agent who looks after his property, is a government clerk on the pay rolls as chief computer in the supervising architect's office and draws pay from the government at the rate of $1.60 a day including Sundays. Although democrats may be mean enough to abuse John for this it is all right and proper from his standing point, for he candidly believes that the government of the United States belongs to the Sherman Family.

Cincinnati Enquirer: - "Republican papers are dropping in their claims. A few weeks ago nothing less than 40,000 majority in Ohio would be considered. We observe that some of the most enthusiastic organs now set the figures at 15,000, and concede that hard work will be required to obtain that."
Illinois State Register.
The secretary of the treasury controls all the currency in the country, and the republican leaders propose that the commander in-chief of the army shall control all the elections. It is evident these people have no confidence in the ability of the people to use their own money or their own votes aright.
Quincy Herald.
Mr. De Young hadn't you better go down into Massachusetts and lodge a pair of bullets in old Ben Butler's carcass? It might make him Governor of that State. Your political favors should not be confined to Rev. Kalloch.
Chicago Times.
As he travels through Ohio, Hayes might as well have his special car emblazoned with the legend: "Vote for Foster!"
Plattsburg Republican (Dem.)
The Democratic party goes into the fight purged of its corrupt elements, and appealing to the people in behalf of a good honest, economical administration of the state government.
