COMMUNICATION.
THE ELECTION OF PRESIDENT.
The following statement exhibits the uncertainty of the Presidential election:
In all 218 votes.
Madison,
Pennsylvania New-Hampshire
Virginia Massachusetts
Kentucky Rhode-Island
Tennessee Connecticut
South Carolina New York
Georgia New Jersey
Maryland Delaware
Maryland 100
Unless Madison shall obtain both Vermont and North Carolina, he probably will not be re-elected.
To those who doubt and vibrate between these candidates, two considerations are offered, either of which is enough to cast the balance.
1st. The war was produced by the unceasing efforts of Mr. Madison, who has conducted it with unexpected disasters and disgrace, and he is unfit to be at the head of the nation in war.
2d. There is no just grounds to believe or to hope that the war will ever be terminated by him without the consent of the emperor Napoleon, whose plans against England are adopted in America. The editor Duane has declared in favor of Mr. Madison, on account of the part he has acted, in producing the war. Duane glories in his enmity to England and in his love to France, whose views he has always been promoting with a zeal only equalled by his diligence in the circulation of calumnies against the most virtuous citizens of America, who have had spirit to resist French doctrines and French dominion.

Main Argument
madison should not be re-elected because he initiated and mismanaged the war with disastrous results, making him unfit to lead, and the war will not end without napoleon's consent due to his pro-french policies.
