Full Text

The following from the Utica (N. Y.) Democrat is a specimen of what is said of General Cass by the Wilmot Proviso men of his own party in the Northern States: This movement indicates that Mr. Cass desires to be placed on the course for the Presidency: and to secure the favor of the South he avows more ultra opinions than even Southern statesmen. Mr. Cass is like a weather-cock; his opinions change with every wind. After voting for the Wilmot Proviso, and advocating its merits, he now turns round and repudiates his professions and disavows his declarations. Politicians of such variable character as Mr. Cass are neither deserving of, nor fit to be entrusted with power.
