PROVIDENCE, December 21.

By some deserters from the ministerial fleet at Newport we learn, that the troops lately arrived there consist of about 6000 Men, one half of them Hessians; & that it was reported on board the fleet, that they were soon to proceed to Boston, through this Town.

We learn from Newport, that upon the arrival of a ship there on Thursday last, supposed to be from New-York, the transports in the harbour began to take on board hay & oats; & it was whispered that Gen. Howe had met with a rebuff in New-Jersey.
