Likely to Lead to a Suit for Damages.
Something more than a week ago the firm of Watts & Miller, of the Empire Bottling Company, dispatched to a distant city for the immediate shipment of certain goods. The dispatch was sent to the Western Union office, and the firm expected that the goods would be shipped immediately. Day after day passed and no goods arrived, neither was any answer received giving a reason for the delay. A second dispatch was sent, and the answer was promptly returned that no order had been received. The firm went to the Western Union and made inquiry regarding the first dispatch, and was told that it had been sent. They were not satisfied, however, and demanded that the matter be looked up. This was done, and the discovery made that the dispatch had not been sent from the office, and the Western Union could explain it only on the ground of carelessness. The bottling firm was justly indignant, as the delay had caused them loss, and there is talk of a suit for damages against the telegraph company.
