BONFILS IN DEATH'S SHADOW.

Denver Publisher Shot by W. W. Anderson Unlikely to Recover.

Denver, Jan. 15.—Fred G. Bonfils, one of the publishers of the Denver Evening Post, both of whom were shot by Attorney W. W. Anderson Saturday, is in a critical condition; this is now announced without disguise or fear of effect on the family. It has now become a question of preparing the wife and relatives for the worst, as the surgeons have been unable to locate the bullet that entered the neck and dropped into the cavity back of the lung. Arrangements had been made to try the X ray to locate the missile, but the condition of the patient yesterday morning forbade all excitement. He was in a high fever that raged all day, and at times delirium added to the difficulty of a correct diagnosis. Severe hemorrhages set in yesterday morning and continued at intervals all day. Should it come to a crisis where it became a question of life or death the surgeons will operate in quest of the bullet.

H. H. Tammen, the other victim of Anderson's revolver, is slightly feverish, but suffered the surgeons to cut out the bullet that lodged in his chest, inflicting scarcely more than a flesh wound. He continues cheerful.

W. W. Anderson remains reticent, but maintains that he can prove a good case when it comes into court. The newspapers unanimously denounce the action of Judge C. P. Butler in admitting him to bail last night when one of his victims was in the shadow of death.
