Full Text

Mail Robbery.—The Carrier of the mail on the route from the Edgefield C. H. to this place, was detected during last week in robbing it and committed to Gaol. It appears that the thing has been practiced for some time by this carrier, as well as the one on the former contract which they are said to have effected by bending the ends of the mail together, locking the chain and drawing out Packages between the staples. We have heard that the rider of the previous contract has been also taken and committed.
The frequency of these depredations on the Mail, of late, renders it highly necessary, that the department should look to it, and that contractors should be made to be more choice and cautious in the election of riders.
