OFFICE HOLDERS,—The "Plebeian" seems to be hitting on the same anti-Tyler view as the News, under the inquiry of "what will Mr. Polk do." "We believe," (that is, we wish,) says the Plebeian, "that he will remove a great many of those at present holding important offices under the General Government, throughout the Union. Those retained by him will, in our opinion be men who have done long service in the Democratic party, and whose characters, competency, and high standing in the party will be unexceptionable." "To suppose (continues the Plebeian) that all those now holding lucrative offices under the General Government, are to remain in office, and the claims of others more deserving are to be discarded, would be supposing that the President elect would be extremely unjust to the party that elevated him! The wheat will be separated from the chaff—the first retained, and latter got rid of as soon as the interests of the Government will permit. Such will be the course of Mr. Polk, at least so we believe." This getting the Tyler office holders out, and the old Van Buren office holders in, will be another rock on which Polkism will split.—N. Y. Express.
