MEET ON DEC. 18
Day Later at Request of
Alderman Childers.
At the request of Alderman Childers, the next meeting of the
City Council will be held on Friday, Dec.
18, instead of on Dec. 17, as per the
regular schedule. Alderman Childers
stated that a near relative was to be
married in another city on Dec. 17
and that he desired very much to be
present. As the meeting scheduled
for Dec. 17 would be the last
he
could attend, his term of office being
about to expire, he asked that the date
be changed to Dec. 18.
Alderman
Allen objected, and suggested that a
leave of absence could be secured for
Alderman Childers. On a vote,
the
postponement carried by 3 to 2.
The city election is on
Dec. 16,
when three aldermen are to be chosen.
The new members will be sworn
in soon afterwards, perhaps on Dec.
23, so that there will be only
one
more regular session of the present
council, and one more time for Mayor
Hawkins to preside. The council will
however meet in called session to
swear in the new members.
