Ross Kidnaping An 'After Thought

CHICAGO Jan 25 (UP)- John Henry Seadlund alias Peter Anders, awaiting grand jury action for the kidnap-slaying of Charles S. Ross, insisted today that the kidnaping was an "after thought" suggested by a chance remark of Ross himself

He revealed in notes sent from his cell to newspapermen that it was he and not his accomplice, James Atwood Gray who forced Ross out of his car the night of Sept. 25

"It was just a stickup." Seadlund said "But as Ross got out of the car he said, 'I always figured I'd be kidnaped some day.

"That was the first time I'd thought of kidnaping him. I was sorry the next day.'

Grinning and kicking at photographers, the slayer was arraigned before U. S. Commissioner Edwin K. Walker late yesterday just an hour after secret funeral services were held for his victim in a heavy rain at Rosehill cemetery.

When Seadlund stood mute, Walker entered a technical plea of not guilty for him, continued the arraignment until Feb. 2 and ordered him held without bond for the grand jury. It is expected an indictment will be returned Friday.

Seadlund was charged only with kidnaping-a charge which provides the death penalty under the Lindbergh law
