Measure Making Appropriations for Rivers and Harbors Passes Lower House.
Washington, Mar. 20.—The house passed the rivers and harbors appropriation bill, carrying upwards of $26,250,000.
The measure went through in quick order, the appropriation being at the rate of more than $8,500,000 an hour.
The vote for it was unanimous.
Twenty of the appropriations were for work or investigations in Florida, the home of Chairman Sparkman of the committee. That drew the fire of Minority Leader Mann.
The paragraphs providing for the Missouri and Mississippi rivers were approved without objection. Thus it is made certain that the bill will go to the senate containing $800,000 new appropriation for the Missouri, making over $1,600,000 available in the next fiscal year to be applied toward getting a permanent 6-foot channel from Kansas City to the mouth.
